Richards Bay FC have named a Top 8 finish as their target for the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season under new head coach Gabriel.
What’s the plan for Richards Bay FC?
Gabriel, now the sole head coach after Papi Zothwane left for Sekhukhune United, told SABC Sport the club’s ambition is realistic yet ambitious. “We feel a top eight target will be a fair benchmark to set ourselves this coming season,” he said. The side finished 11th in the Premier Soccer League last time out with 34 points from 30 games - 35 points behind league leaders Orlando Pirates.
Richards Bay ended the 2025/26 campaign in 11th place, just missing out on the 2026 MTN8 after securing an eighth-place finish on the final day of the 2024/25 season. The club scored 23 goals and conceded 30, ending with a -7 goal difference.
Who’s arrived at Richards Bay FC?
Gabriel’s squad has been reshaped ahead of the new campaign. The club has signed goalkeeper Nhlakanipho Ngcobo, defender Siyabonga Gumede, striker Nqaba Xulu, and midfielders Philani Sithebe and Khayelihle Mncube. “New signings have integrated well into the dynamics of the team,” Gabriel said. “We are looking to add the much needed depth in the squad.”
Pre-season training has progressed smoothly, with Gabriel noting the group has adjusted to demands. “Pre-season is going according to plan. Fifth week of pre-season, the group has adjusted accordingly to the required demands,” he added.
