Richards Bay FC have announced that head coach Ronnie Gabriel has left his position right away. The team is now in late-stage discussions to hire ex-TS Galaxy head Adnan Beganovic to replace him.
"Richards Bay Football Club is sad to announce that head coach Ronnie Gabriel has resigned from the club with immediate effect," read a club statement. The club expressed gratitude for Gabriel's work in recent years.
Gabriel's departure comes after a tough beginning to the Betway Premiership season. The Natal Rich Boyz hold the 14th spot in the standings, having earned only three points from six games without a victory. Their latest results include two straight defeats, one being a significant loss to Milford FC in their last away fixture.
Adnan Beganovic, the Bosnian who parted ways with TS Galaxy in April, is the frontrunner for the job. Reports suggest he is nearing agreement on a two-year deal that includes an option for another year, with some terms still under discussion. Beganovic is presently in Bosnia and plans to fly to South Africa soon to complete the agreement. He intends to appoint his own assistant to join his coaching staff.
The club stated that more information about the hiring will be provided later. Richards Bay will play their next game at their stadium against Sekhukhune United this Saturday.
